What changes for the resident
No pre-dawn transport pickups. No missed meals, therapy sessions, or activities. No post-treatment ride back. The Elik nurse arrives, sets up in the resident's room, places the needles, runs the treatment to the nephrologist's prescription, monitors one-on-one throughout, breaks everything down, and documents the visit to the nephrologist and in coordination with the facility's nursing team. The treatment fits into the resident's day instead of erasing it.
What the facility gains
Residents stay safely in place, three transport events per dialysis resident per week leave your risk and scheduling picture, and dialysis stops being the reason a family moves a resident elsewhere. What the family should know
No family training, no care partner, no transport coordination. Those jobs end. Coverage: Original Medicare does not pay for staff-assisted home hemodialysis, by law. Medicare Advantage plans follow Medicare's reimbursement rules, so they do not pay for it either. Elik provides staff-assisted home hemodialysis for eligible patients with BCBS, Cigna, or UnitedHealthcare/UHC commercial coverage, including when Medicare is the primary insurance. Medicare-only, Medicare Advantage (including BCBS, Cigna, or UHC Medicare Advantage plans), Medicare supplement (Medigap) plans, and Medicaid do not pay for this service through Elik. If the resident has Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, or UnitedHealthcare commercial insurance, on its own or as a secondary plan alongside Medicare (a retiree group plan, a spouse's employer plan), the resident qualifies. How a resident starts
Send demographics, the insurance face sheet, and nephrology orders or recent records. Partial packets are fine. Elik confirms the benefit, usually same-day, and gives a payable-or-not answer per resident. Once orders arrive, in-facility starts happen within days; hospital-to-facility placements are prioritized.
